Welcome from the President

Welcome from the President

rubenWelcome to the National Latino Peace Officers Association, San Diego Metro Chapter (NLPOA) website.  As your newly elected President I would like to take a moment to express my sincerest gratitude and appreciation to all of our membership and fellow supporters for allowing me to serve you, our community, and our law enforcement of San Diego.

What started in the mid 1970’s as social organization of Latino peace officers from throughout San Diego County, formerly known as “La Placa Social” (Spanish slang reference for “The Social Badge”), and after taken on numerous namesakes and organizations, the San Diego Metro chapter was founded 1997 and later evolved into what is currently the largest NLPOA Chapter in the United States with over 300 members consisting of law the enforcement, associate, and students members.

The NLPOA San Diego Metro Chapter has championed many causes and made tremendous impacts in our community and in the lives of our members.  It haspioneered the way for diversity in law enforcement and helped to achieve professional success for our members through advocacy, mentorship, and career guidance.  It has also established itself as a local and international charitable organization providing relief and support to local families in need, children, military, and officers.  Furthermore, the NLPOA San Diego Metro Chapter has focused its efforts on our local youth by emphasizing educational success through scholarships, tutoring, and a youth athletic program aimed to prevent delinquency in our youth and promote healthy living through fitness training and nutritional education.

As your President, my goal is bridge the gap and strengthening ties between law enforcement and our community.  To establish ongoing partnerships with community and civic leaders and work hand in hand with other organizations that share in our common vision.  Lastly, I wish to establish a sense of pride and ownership of our organization in our members and create a family-friendly environment that can be shared their loved ones, family, and friends.

I invite you to explore our website and learn of the many wonderful examples of charity and relief our organization puts forth in our communities.  Learn how you can make a difference in your community, and help us keep America safe as a member of the National Latino Peace Officers Association, San Diego Metro Chapter.

Most Sincerely,

Ruben Gutierrez, President
NLPOA San Diego Metro Chapter
