For the past Five years, the NLPOA San Diego Metro Chapter
has proudly supported the Christmas Train Organization.
Christmas Train
|
The event is called the Christmas Train in the U.S.
However, the event in Tecate and all of México
is known as “The Day of the Three Kings” in
commemoration of the three wise men who brought gifts
to the baby Jesus upon his birth. While in the U.S. the
traditional day of giving presents is Christmas, in México,
it is on the 12th day of Christmas, also known as “The
Day of the Three Kings”. So the Christmas Train
arrives in Tecate on the Sunday closest to The Day of
the Three Kings.
The City of Tecate organizes all of the on-site needs
for such a large event. They provide security, first
aid, a stage, a sound system, and personnel facilities,
as well as arrange for the children to come to the train
when they might otherwise be unable to do so.
The first year the train went to Tecate was 1998. That
year 2,300 children received gifts. It has grown over
the years. In 2003, over 5,600 children came to the
train. The Mayor of Tecate says, “This is the
most important event of the year for Tecate’s
children.”

Jaime Limon is an NLPOA San Diego Metro Member who has volunteered to perform at our Fundraising events.
Jaime Limon is a San Diego area native that has roots in Mexico's Jalisco and Zacatecas areas. From the Southern California area he has had a long singing career, which almost came to an end when he was critically injured in a car accident while working as a Police Officer in the San Diego area. After enduring several years of rehabilitation and surgeries, Jaime was able to restart his Law Enforcement career as well as his now booming singing career. As one of the most popular Mariachi singers in the heavily Latino area that borders Mexico, Jaime has had many opportunities to sing before large audiences in live performances. Not to mention his many radio promotional appearances.
