Welcome to NLPOA San Diego Metro Chapter

I am humbled with the privilege to be the first prosecutor in the history of the NLPOA to serve as President of the San Diego Metro Chapter. I credit our past presidents and NLPOA members for their mentorship and guidance. I credit our executive board members, past and present, with the growth and success of this chapter. As a member, you help keep San Diego safe and influence the next generation of Latino law enforcement leaders.

Our nation is currently in the midst of a conversation on community-police relations, reducing crime, and promoting diversity in law enforcement. However, the NLPOA has been addressing these concerns since 1972 when it was created to eliminate prejudice and discrimination in the Criminal Justice System. Today, the NLPOA is the largest Latino law enforcement association in the United States and the San Diego Metro chapter is proud to be at the forefront of this conversation by working with community partners and local businesses to promote public trust that is essential to keeping our communities safe and defusing tension to keep our officers safe.

We are committed to building bridges between law enforcement and the communities we serve by working to reduce neighborhood tensions through community outreach efforts. Our philosophy regarding youth crime prevention and promoting education has reinforced the important contributions that our cultural diversity has provided this great nation. Through our community partnerships, we support our local youth by providing mentorship, gang intervention, tutoring resources, and scholarships.

This chapter also has a rich history of providing training opportunities to make sure our members are the most qualified candidates in their agency’s promotion process. As such, our chapter is at the forefront of advancing diversity in San Diego law enforcement leadership. As a border region, we also take pride in promoting U.S.-Mexican cross-border cooperation in law enforcement through charitable giving and training.

On behalf of the board,

Martin Nuñez, Esq.
President, San Diego Metro Chapter
